Watch: All Joking Aside 2020 123movies, Full Movie Online – Working a dead end job at an upscale greengrocer in New York City, twenty-one year old Charlie Murray wants to try to become a stand-up comic due to a combination of factors in her life, including comedy being a touchstone to her father who died a few years ago from a heart attack, an estrangement with her mother for what Charlie believes was a contributing factor to that heart attack, and Charlie herself in recovery from a skin cancer scare. Her first attempt at stand-up at an open mic night is a disaster in being unable to stand up to a heckler. She eventually discovers from among other people Dennis the club owner that that heckler is Bob Carpenter, who once was one of the edgier stand-up comics in town, but for various reasons, including family issues of his own and an incident at the end of what was his last routine that he gave up the life, but is still at the periphery of the stand-up world. In their many subsequent less than chance encounters, Charlie is eventually able to convince him to be her mentor in wanting to learn all about the finer details of stand-up from someone who went through it rather than “teachers” who probably were failures at it if they attempted it at all. In their time together, Bob may be better able to deal with his life issues in learning from Charlie as much as she learns about the world she wants to be a part of from Bob..
Plot: A young woman pursuing her dream of becoming a stand-up comic, forms an unlikely friendship with a jaded, former comedian after he heckles her off the stage at her first open mic.

Why bother doing a movie about comedy and make it not funny? Even dark humor and the struggle is fine. Was this supposed to be Dave Attell mentors Tiffany Haddish in a world where comedy doesn’t exist?. Don’t waste your time with this one watch The Opening Act instead.

Interesting take on stand-up
Shannon Kohli has worked in TV, directing episodes of Riverdale and The Magicians. With a script from James Pickering (his first full-length film. although he did write a short version of this called Comedienne in 2014), she tackles the world of what it takes to be a stand-up.

Charlene Murray (Raylene Harewood, who has been in some small roles but really seizes her moment here) was inspired by her late father’s dream and wants to try comedy at an open mic night. However, she’s heckled by Bob Carpenter (Bruce Markinson, who has also been in several movies in small roles but really is great in this), a burned-out comedian who just may become her mentor.

I really enjoyed that Bob makes Charlene realize that she has to determine what is different – or even wrong – about who she is before she can create the kind of comedy that will win over the crowd. It’s not enough to be funny. She has to be different. She has to be herself.
