tired of shaky camera
Tuck, Munch and Alex are nerdy best friends but a roadway is being built through their Vegas suburb and their families have to move. Then they find their phones acting up. They figure out the image on their phone is a map and they find strange pieces of metal. As they collect each piece, they connect to form Echo. One of the locations turns out to be popular girl Emma’s home. She insists on joining them as they continue collecting pieces. Also the road construction crews led by Dr. Lawrence Madsen (Jason Gray-Stanford) seem to be aware of something going on.

It starts as the Goonies with smart phones. They find a mechanical ET. The story is perfectly fine. The kids are OK but Tuck talks too much. The two other boys don’t get enough attention. My big problem is the found footage style. The shaky hand held camera is too shaky. It needs to compensate with regular camera work especially in some of the action scenes. They could be done so much better. It could have been a good kids adventure.

Expectations turned upside-down.
My wife got preview tickets for my kids and I, I will have to say that I went under protest originally. We were privileged to get to hear the creative mind give a live introduction before the preview showing. At the end of which I was really looking forward to the movie, it was unfortunate that the gentleman who did the introduction left afterward’s, I would have enjoyed telling him this in person. I would say this movie was exactly as he said. This movie has elements of ET/Wally and other child-alien family movies, but this movie is really a kid buddy movie treasure hunt like the Goonies. I would say a little lighter weight as you only have 4 main characters instead of 7 Goonies, and the bad guys don’t really develop as much character as Goonies, but all in all, its similar in the inspired by kinda way and not in the ripped off and changed the names kinda way. I REALLY enjoyed it, my 5 YO son and 6 YO daughter did so and want to buy it right away. We followed this up by watching the Goonies with them and they loved it, I think some of the teenage stuff got them lost but they are now clamoring for more like this. Please please create move of these style of movies Hollywood. Cons: Only two races represented, only 4 main characters, lovely development of them though, but no surprises. Bad guys had very little about them explained so you could not love to hate them, they were more like props.
