A Rich Story In Every Way
After directing the Scottish junkies’ tale “Trainspotting” and the zombie horror story “28 Days Later,” the latest from Danny Boyle is a real departure. “Millions” is the story of Damian Cunningham, a pious young dreamer who walks and talks with saints. When a huge satchel of money falls out of the sky, he assumes it came from Heaven. This is a charming movie with a tender story, and whimsical visuals. (Keep your eye on the saints’ halos!) There are moments of comedy, of suspense, and thought-provoking elements. One scene has St. Peter giving a theory on how the miracle of the loaves and the fishes may have really happened. Above all, “Millions” may make you think about being more charitable. Whether that was Boyle’s original intention is not clear, but it’s a very nice sentiment.

“Millions” tells the story of Damian, a very clever 7-year-old boy who suffers the decease of his mother. He has a particular interest in Saints and has faith in them. When he finds a bag of money, he and his brother Anthony must decide in what they can spend the money before the change from the pound to the Euro.

I really like this film of Danny Boyle, showing the story of a young boy who cares about the rest of world and how money can change our behavior in matter of seconds. It has a very interesting main character, Damian, who is a unique boy for his age and he is just very different of the rest of his school partners. I like how Damian is always trying to be a good person and for that he has his own fantasy world, where the Saints are his helpers. I’m not a religious person but I understand Damian because he use the religion for be good with the rest of the world, is like Ofelia from “Pan’s Labyrinth” who creates a fantasy world to deal with a cruel and dark world. The money is the perfect thing that can test you in matters of your behavior. When Damian thought that the money was a miracle of God he want to use it for a good case but his brother wants to use the money just for them and he turns into an expert of finances. Damian’s desires were better but Anthony’s acts were much clever. When they finally discover that the money was the product of a robbery, only Damian feel bad for use it and the act of burn the money is just a miracle that helps him to stop worrying about his mother.

Conclusion: “Millions” is a very different film of the rest of Boyle but is as good as the others. It’s a little comedy with a message that has a wonderful performance of Alex Etel and a great and imaginative visual part. I highly recommend this film to anybody who wants to enjoy one and a half hour with the family. 9 out of 10
