Interesting, gripping drama
Interesting, gripping, docu-drama about a 1936 German expedition in its attempt to be the first to successfully climb the North Face of the Eiger. Moving story, well told.

Solid performances all round.

Very impressive movie
My comment after the credits rolled in this movie was that this movie, or a movie like this would never be made in Hollywood.

A.In Hollywood movies all actors are beautiful. B.In a Hollywood movie an actor will never appear dirty or unwashed (even when the script gets them dirty. C.In a Hollywood movie, no ending would be allowed unless

1. The Hero Triumphs,

2 The Hero dies but his/her task is complete.

3 The hero is united with his/her love. etc.

In this movie the director shows how it really was.

The characters look genuinely sweaty and tired at the appropriate times.

The female lead could not be described as beautiful but thats OK, most girls are not beautiful to Hollywood standards. Her acting was entirely natural and believable, as was the whole movie.

Although the movie climaxes differently from the history in some significant ways, I think it is because the director considered his audience. The historical facts are far more terrible than the movie portrays and probably too horrifying for any audience.

However the movie portrays the story in a very believable fashion. I had no reason to believe that the shooting was not actually shot on the Eiger.

The ending is not a Hollywood ending and I think this is the main strength of the movie.

A Hollywood producer would insist on some sort of positive message such as “Human Endeavour triumphs over Adversity” or something of that nature.

However the message of this movie comes through loud and clear-
