Entertaining horror spoof that tried to capitalize on the early 80’s slasher craze.
Mickey Rose, one of Woody Allen’s early collaborators wrote and directed this screwball take on the horror films of the late 70’s/ early 80’s. A mysterious killer who wears also black and kills it’s victims with some very unusual weapons stalks a group of overage high school students. The Breather is it’s name. The killer likes to taunt the school officials and brag to the local authorities about the crimes. Unfortunately the film was plagued by one huge problem, the lack of funds and Mickey Rose had to bail out of the project before it was completed. The equally mysterious Alan Smithee took over and completed the picture. I found this film to be highly entertaining. It’s sad that a film like this has been neglected and unheard of for the past twenty years. A rarity like this should not be missed.
