There is a lot of truth in this movie. I do not care if you are Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, or other, if you listen closely the rants and the facts in the background of the movie should ring true. We are all slaves to the system and also the “old money” described in one of the later rants. However, remember that many middle or even high level employees and owners of Wall Street have no idea they work for a corrupt system.

I believe that the acting and atmosphere were solid, especially for a low budget movie. However, the movie was a bit romanticized and unrealistic.

I would recommend this movie to someone who is yearning for a better understanding of politics, money in general, and who wants to also be mildly entertained. I would not recommend this movie to anyone who watches for the sole purpose of being entertained, it cannot compete with other movies in terms of pure entertainment value.

A very moving picture
Mr. Boll gives us a very realistic and believable picture of the lives of people in very different social strata. This is not a thriller nor is it a mystery. It simply tells the story of a man, Jim, who is pushed over the edge by a series of tragic events that appear almost to be deliberate. Jim is a hard-working armored car driver whose wife is seriously ill. Almost as the story begins, we learn that new treatments are even more expensive and their medical coverage has capped. At the same time, the Wall Street bubble is bursting and rumors of scandal run rampant. All Jim’s savings are invested with a trusted and confident broker. When he learns his savings have been wiped out, Jim begins to get nothing but the runaround from everyone concerned. As things tighten up and Jim’s money runs out, the creditors begin harassing him. His boss is forced to let Jim go because an armored car driver with big financial difficulties is something neither his clients nor his insurance company would tolerate. Then Jim’s wife does what she believes to be a noble thing : She commits suicide. Completely devastated Jim slowly tries to recover but his anger towards the people he believes have betrayed him begins to grow and grow until it reaches the point where somebody has to pay. What Jim does is not right, but he’s not really a bad guy at all. In fact contrary to most films, there aren’t really any bad guys in this film. Jim’s broker believes he is right in what he has done and continues to do. His super cool lawyer is confident, remote and distant, but that’s just him. Even the top “bad guy”, John Heard, is very convincing and convinced that he has done and continues to do the right thing. It’s simply that all these people live in different worlds and can’t understand the others. Right up until the very end, Mr. Heard heartily and convincingly maintains his position. Over all, I believe Mr. Boll has given us not only a glimpse into one life that was affected by the Wall Street debacle, but presented us with real believable people. As Gecko, Michael Douglas shows us a hard remorseless people-eater. In this film, Heard is probably a nice guy in his off hours. He believes his responsibility to the company is job One and never loses sight of that responsibility. Overall, I watched every minute of this with interest, although the outcome was pretty clear from the beginning. There was however, a clever twist at the ending that may leave some surprised.
