This is a movie you have to be emotionally prepared to watch
Break Every Chain is a brilliantly acted, inspiring film. However, I want to put out a warning: it’s very sad. The premise of the film (which is a true story) is a police officer who receives a promotion. In the beginning he’s on cloud nine, but he soon discovers his job entails going to the scenes of car crashes. This causes him to become depressed, and he starts drinking excessively. He and his wife also suffer an immense tragedy. The combination of burnout from his job, the loss he experiences in his personal life, and his alcoholism lead him spiraling into hopelessness. He finds himself angry at God. This movie might be hard to watch for some people. It started out on a positive note, but then one awful thing happens after another. I didn’t watch to the end. It was late at night, and I figured this wasn’t the best movie to be watching at nighttime. I like going to bed with happy thoughts. Honestly, I prefer Christian films over secular movies. Hollywood doesn’t portray people’s interactions realistically. Some people might not like Christian films because they’re too real, in which case, I suggest watching when you’re in the right head space. I hope I’m able to catch the end of it one day, preferably during an afternoon.
