Good watch, could watch again, and can recommend. There really isn’t much special about this one, but Kristen Bell really shows how great an actress she is and Kelsey Grammer nails his role as the disappointing father figure.
This reconnection story in tragedy is very touching and interesting from a psychology perspective. There is plenty of situational comedy mixed in with all the family drama.
Again, there really isn’t much to rave about, but it’s a movie full of feels.
Judging from the description, I assumed that Like Father was a different sort of romantic comedy. I figured that Dad would come into play to either assist or hinder in his daughter’s quest for romantic love, perhaps by facilitating or blocking her from getting back together with the man who left her at the alter because she was obsessed with work right up to the time to say their vows.Instead, as the title foreshadows, this is not a romance movie, but rather a father-daughter “Will three find a way to get along” movie. Everything rides on which way her feelings run for her father, suddenly back in her life. It takes place on a cruise, originally planned for her honeymoon, and the movie follows their fumbling towards whatever their relationship is destined to be, while they interact with a group of people assigned to their table at mealtimes. I assume that Royal Caribbean put up some money for the film, for their name and ship is the main setting, and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves like people do in commercials.
There is character development here, as you would expect, and the two leads put in a credible performance as they face the complexities of getting to know each other many years after he left his family behind. This isn’t a movie I would go out of my way to watch again, but it was entertaining enough to be worth the time. It helps if you like Kelsey Grammar, as I do.
Cute, too many hateful reviews
Look, it won’t win any awards, but it was a cute little movie. I don’t like Seth Rogen in anything, but considering it’s his wife’s movie, his presence was to be expected. Someone/any one else could’ve played his character equally well, hopefully better. He wasn’t a believable romantic interest. We’ll never know. All the haters crapping on the cruise line…c’mon, really? It wouldn’t matter what cruise line they were on, the same people would be fussing. I guess they’d prefer if the cruise line had no name. I enjoyed the dynamic between Kristen & Kelsey, they played their evolving characters well. It may have been predictable but still cute. Maybe really only a 6 because of Rogen, but I thought I’d give the ratings a little boost, just for effort.
Slow
Movie moves pretty slow and gets fairly boring. The only funny part of the movie is when Seth Rogen says he has never smoked anything in his life.
